People who are going through anorexia have an extreme obsession of reducing their weight because they fear gaining any pounds. And because of this fear, they were not able to keep a normal body weight. Usually, they lose weight by limiting their consumption of food, dieting, extreme exercises, and fasting. They barely eat anything at all. Some anorexic people splurge to eating and then purge afterwards. This means, they will consume large quantities of food in just one sitting and then will force it out by the use of laxatives, force vomiting, or exercising to a great extent.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder, which is considered a grave illness, so it would be better to take the necessary action to treat it once detected. In serious cases, this type of disorder can result to a lot more ailments and even death.
Among the most efficient treatment for anorexia nervosa is psychotherapy or psychological counseling, in addition to nutritional and medical support. Additionally, the treatment may differ from one person to another because each patient has different severity of anorexia.
The main reason for psychological counseling is to help the patient deal with their fear of eating and some other underlying issues which may have contributed to the onset of the eating disorder. A regular session with a certified dietician can greatly help the person to get back to his or her normal eating habits.
Anorexia nervosa or any other types of eating disorder definitely needs immediate medical attention. If the disorder is left untreated and has entered the chronic stage, it may become so much harder to deal with and even life threatening.
