Giardiasis is a kind of intestinal ailment that has an impact on the digestive tract. This disease is mainly caused by the minuscule flagellated protozoan parasite, Giardia lamblia. Generally, this parasite is responsible for some diarrheal illness, cramps, gas, and belching. Though these symptoms are horrible, the ailment is not really serious.

Lots of animals have Giardia in their stools and may transfer this parasite into streams, springs, and rivers in rural areas where the water supplies are based. Giardia can also be transferred through unintentional putting of hands, or something that is contaminated with the parasite, into your mouth. Uncooked foods and swallowing of water in rivers and public swimming pools can also be the cause of the parasite’s transmission into your body.

An antibiotic called Flagyl can treat giardiasis. This medicine is regularly taken three times per day for 5 to 10 consecutive days. However, it may cause some side effects like nausea. And one must remember that while taking this drug, drinking of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

As you can see, there may be some downside with taking medicines even if they are effective. In view of this, natural treatment can be a safe and better alternative. Here are some natural ways to avoid giardia:

• washing of hands before and after eating

• washing of hands after using the toilet

• boiling of water for drinking

• cooking the foods very well, avoid eating raw

• using a special kind of water treatment that can kill the parasite

• drinking plenty of safe liquids
